About this deal

The Legio Custodes were the first genetically and psychologically altered creations created by the Emperor, predating even the Thunder Warriors (the hulking proto-Space Marines that would be his final instrument in conquering Terra). The warriors of the Legio Custodes were fierce creations, each towering over baseline humans, and possessing many qualities that made them stronger, faster, more intelligent, longer lived, and just plain better than their normal human cousins. Secondary choices for Custodes can be difficult but the problem is even worse for your opponent: Custodes give up a staggeringly low number of points on most secondaries, usually around ten on Assassination with some of the toughest characters in the game and far fewer on bring it down and no prisoners. Wardens are much like regular Guardians. However, they are great with characters thanks to Resolute Will. They can also be armed with vicious Castellan axes. Vertus Praetors Raise The Banners High: Infantry unit performs action on an objective starting at the end movement and completing at end of your turn. Banners are destroyed at the end of any phase that your opponent controls that objective. During your command phase, score 1 point per objective with a banner on it and 1 point per banner remaining at the end of the game. Since actions cannot be performed by a unit that advanced that turn, and prevent you from shooting/charging (or use auras) during that same turn, this is fairly hard to accomplish for a low unit count army. If you make a list to utilize this secondary, it can be more feasible, but if your opponent is very mobile, this becomes fairly risky. Also keep in mind, you effectively need 3 banners up at least 3 turns of scoring to max. (Good with the right list.)

Blade Champion • Hetaeron Guard • Aquilon Terminator • Ephoroi • Allarus Custodian • Custodian Warden • Vexilus Praetor • Apothecary The Adeptus Custodes are the Auric Mortalis ("The Golden Death"), the dread guardians and only living beings permitted to be in the presence of the Emperor unencumbered. Now ensconced deep within the Sanctum Imperialis of the Inner Palace on Terra, they continue their eternal watch over the recumbent form of the Emperor upon the Golden Throne. The Vertus Praetors add some much needed mobility to the Adeptus Custodes army. Armed with jetbikes and lances, Praetors are especially effective on the charge. Witchseekers Deploy Scramblers: Non-character infantry unit performs action at end of movement phase, once wholly within your deployment zone, once more than 6″ away from either deployment zone, and once wholly within enemy deployment zone, completes at end of your turn. Score 10 points if all 3 pieces are completed, zero otherwise. With having easy access to infantry coming in from reserve, this secondary is fairly easy to achieve as long as your list has the infantry to achieve it. Slightly risky because you get none if you fail, but overall looks to be an easy 10 points. (Good.)With the small points changes, the brand new stratagems from Psychic Awakening: War of the Spider, the new mission format, and more CP to work with, I think Custodes are looking to be super competitive in the early 9th ed meta, and are likely to be a top-tier army. If you’ve been thinking about painting the boys in gold, now’s a good time. The reward for it being more narrow is that it’s more flexible and focused. At the start of each Fight Phase you select one of three stances for your army to adopt, which applies to every unit with this ability, which is Custodes Infantry, Bikers, Dreadnoughts and Land Raiders, but not Sisters of Silence. Yes, the Land Raider can do karate, no we will not be taking questions. Near-immortal are the Adeptus Custodes, for the golden elixir of the Emperor's own blood runs in their veins. Though outwardly resplendent, there is a scar upon the soul of the Custodian Guard, an inescapable disgrace that has tainted their history and lives in the heart of every warrior, from fresh inductees to veterans over a thousand Terran years old. They hold few voidships of their own, but could command by edict any such vessel of the Imperialis Armada or later Imperial Navy to their task, and in fact requisition anyone or anything within the Imperium in extremis to serve their most sacred and undaunted task; the protection of the Emperor and His works from all the foes of Humanity. Whether serving as part of a detachment acting as the destroyers of some ill-fated foe, or tasked as a bodyguard for the Emperor or some element of His household, or even where a handful of Custodians might be deployed to act as the personal protectors of an Imperial emissary or Lord Militant, they are tireless, vigilant and remorseless.

For millennia, the Adeptus Custodes have formed the unyielding core of the Emperor's multi-layered defences. Those Custodian Guard charged with the physical protection of the Master of Mankind spend every waking second devoted to their task, refining their warrior skills and constantly testing and updating their own strategies to ensure the sanctity of the Emperor's throne. They are His last line of defence against a hostile galaxy hell-bent on Humanity's destruction. If they fail in their task, the Imperium of Man will collapse from the inside out. Their duty is so sacred, their reputation so profound, that even Space Marines and Inquisitors kneel before them.Earth – or Terra, as it’s known in the far future – wasn’t always united under the Emperor. For millennia, He worked from the shadows to influence humanity, but, once the nascent human empire faded into the Age of Strife, He took matters into his own hands. Over time, He built vast human armies to conquer the fractured nations of Terra – but even that wasn’t enough to finish the job – so, instead, He literally built an army. The Legio Custodes, though it kept its numerical strength of ten times that number, was reforged as the "Adeptus Custodes" before the time of the Second Founding, becoming castellans of the Imperial Palace whose sole and solemn duty was to protect the Emperor from final death. The Custodian Guard, as they were also known, became the Emperor’s personal bodyguard (for they were few in number, and their skill in warfare unmatched) but Custodians could also occasionally be spared to lead particularly important missions, or as envoys.

Custodes detachments no longer give +1 invulnerable save to models in them, just ADEPTUS CUSTODES INFANTRY and ADEPTUS CUSTODES BIKERS, so no more 3+ invulnerable save Assassins.

Detachment Rules – Shield Host

This is really the first time we’ve seen a rework (at least that has been released) of JOYTOY minis, so it’s really interesting. Plus, JOYTOY also revealed size comparisons for both the Adeptus Custodes and Sisters of Battle releases to other figures they have made. JOYTOY Custodes Rework & Size Comparisons There are those who believe that the Adeptus Custodes stand immobilised by ritual and rote, but they are sorely mistaken. Only the Custodian Guard know what occurs behind the Sanctum Imperialis' colossal doors, and the lengths to which they have gone to keep their vigil. Their sacred task has by no means led to inactivity. At the climax of the Horus Heresy, the Custodian Guard fought monstrosities without number, for those in the Traitor Legions powerful enough to reach the gates of the Imperial Palace were twisted body and soul by the baleful gifts of Chaos. A thousand victories were won by the Custodian Guard, but they all turned to ash when the Master of Mankind teleported aboard Horus' flagship, the Vengeful Spirit, at the height of the Siege of Terra. There, a strike force of Legio Custodes fought the fiercest of Traitors to protect their master. They were found wanting. The evidence then is clear; since before the first worlds were conquered as the Great Crusade left the Sol System, since before the taking of Luna and the Treaty of Olympus Mons, since before the Cataclysm of Ursh and the fall of the Yndonisic Bloc, before the Space Marines and before the Thunder Warriors, the Custodian Guard have walked at the Emperor's side.

To accomplish the ends to which the Legio Custodes were designed, not only is a Custodian's superhuman physical power honed to a razor's edge, but so also is the individual Custodian's intellect, mental fortitude and martial skill developed with ruthless application and zeal.

Indomitable Guardians, the Stratagem that allows a Custodes unit to “interrupt” in the fight phase wile they are within 3″ of an objective was updated to refer to being within Engagement Range. Among the Warhammer 40kImperium armies of Space Marinesand transhuman warriors, the Adeptus Custodes are the elite of the elite. They stand guard over the Emperor and his Imperium, the last line of defence between civilisation and eternalChaos. This list, which Aaron took to a 4-1 2nd-place finish at the Wizards Asylum GT last weekend, runs heavy on Custodian Squads for capturing and controlling objectives. It’s a good example of a foot list with Terminator support, using the Allarus Custodians to control the middle of the board while being nigh unkillable. The new dataslate update and changes to the game with Arks of Omen really helped amp up the golden boys. We all know how good a 4+ save can be on a 3+ wound body. A lot of damage right now is set at 2. So 3 wounds are always a pain to get thru. Add a slightly tougher body as well as a 4+ invulnerable save and you start to see how powerfully this unit can be. Oh – and the unit got objective secured on top of it all making it extra spicy. For ten thousand standard years the Shadowkeepers have performed their duty, yet the opening of the Great Rift changed everything. With the power of Chaos spilling raw and seething into the spaces between the stars, new abominations have come to light. Worse still are the cells that stand suddenly empty, the entities and artefacts once contained within spirited away by some unholy force to curse the galaxy once more.
