About this deal

I would have loved it if the secret bidder was sitting right next to Bond and he was thwarted just this once. The movie involves some clowns and some acrobats and neither of those things make an appearance in the book. However, the assignment becomes difficult when Bond discovers that Trigger is a beautiful female cellist whom he had earlier admired. An unusually morose James Bond is assigned sniper duty to help a defector known as "272" escape East Berlin.

An enormously rare Faberge egg has been sent to her, which she is now having auctioned off at Sotheby's. According to some sources, such as The Bond Files by Andy Lane and Paul Simpson, The Property of A Lady was under consideration as the title of Dalton's third James Bond film to be released in 1991, but it went unfilmed; little of the original short story would have been available for use, given it having been used in the Octopussy film. The rights to Fleming's works were held by Glidrose Productions (now Ian Fleming Publications) and the company decided that two short stories, "Octopussy" and "The Living Daylights", would be published in 1966.Smythe is a very interesting character and the story is mostly told via his flashbacks of his involvement in the murder.

Only a few copies of these typescripts were produced, of which this is thought to be the only extant example. Maria Freudenstein was hired by the British Secret Service with prior knowledge that she was a double agent. Case is 1/4 green leather and cloth, with raised bands, gilt tooling, and gilt titles to the spine, and an inlay of the dust jacket design on the front. Those early covers and the linkage to the movies with a continuously randy Bond were what my personal censors knew about the books. Though, in the first of those stories, "Octopussy," the antagonist is the point of view character and Bond proves to be a minor player.Instead, I started on Agatha Christie mysteries and Perry Rhodan sci-fi serials and read dozens of them. And so, when the novel was ultimately released some eight months later, the world must have understandably believed that this unfleshed-out caper would be the author's final word regarding 007.
